Do kids care if the house is clean?

“To say that the life of a mom is busy, is an understatement.  I work part time out of the house while my kids are at school.  So that means anything that needs to get done as far as cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry etc. is all done while I’m with them.

It also doesn’t help that I’m an OCD neat freak and I like things a certain way.  My kids are 3 and 5.  Facebook likes to remind me that they are growing very fast by showing me their little baby faces on almost a daily basis. Time slips away very fast.  So I’ve decided to be more present.  It’s ok to take a moment and get that hug or snuggle that they want.  The kitchen floor may have an endless amount of crumbs and need to be mopped, but I should read “The Very Busy Spider” first.  The laundry may be piled up and ready to be folded, but I should snuggle with my baby when she asks.  The playroom may need some tidying (OK the toys are EVERYWHERE), but right now we need to make paper puppets and put on a show.  We might be all ready for bed and in our pajamas, but maybe a quick trip to the ice cream shop will be a lot of fun.  While it sounds to simple, it’s hard to put habits aside.  I have to be OK with not having everything perfect every single second.  My kids need their Mommy and I doubt they’ll have any recollection of a dirty floor or piled up laundry when they’re older.  I’ll just have to watch what’s in the background of my pictures!”
